Class 2: Understanding Medical Interventions
This class discusses the commonly offered medical interventions during hospital births and teaches you the benefits, risks, and likely consequences of each. It also discusses induction of labor, pain management options, and the common interventions applied to Baby immediately postpartum.
While this class is geared toward hospital births, some clients planning homebirths choose this class so they are better informed should they need a mid-labor transfer to the hospital.
This class does not discuss prior births, so VBAC mamas may want to add a 30-60 minute one-on-one session, in addition to this class, to learn what the research tells us about how care providers modify their treatment for mamas undergoing a trial of labor for a VBAC. There is a lot of interesting research about how prior C-Sections impact care providers’ risk evaluations and subsequent medical recommendations and interventions during a trial of labor for a VBAC.
